Galbanum Incense, Galbanum Resin, Galbanum Essential Oil

Galbanum Resin Galbanum's use in healing processes and in making incense since ancient times has well been documented in the Old Testament as well in ancient papyri scripts. It is a gum resin obtained from the large parennial herbs called Ferula galbaniflua which belongs to the Apiaceae family. Although the resin is commercially collected from different species of the Ferula genus, the best source is Ferula galbaniflua. This aromatic resin appears as light-brown, yellowish or greenish-yellow shinny lumps or tears and has long been prized for its green, spicy, woody, balsamlike fragrance. Due to these properties galbanum resin is used in making incense, incense sticks, essential oils and perfumes. The galbanum incense sticks are loved by large no of people because of its unique aroma and other healing properties due to which it is used in aromatherapy.

The herbaceous ferulla trees are perennial plants that may grow up to 5 meters tall with tripinnate leaves with a thick basal case that grips the stem. These umbelliferae trees originated in Persia but now is cultivated widely in Iran and Turkey. The whole tree abounds with the milky sap, which seeps from the joints of old plants. These stems are then cut down in the base and the sap is collected and let to harden. Even the roots of these plants abound with this sap, which are also collected by tapping.

There are two types of commercially available Galbanum : Levant Galbanurn and the Persian Galbanum, both of which are used in making incense, perfumes and essential oils.
