Habitat of Clove/ Lavang

This small black-colored spice, known as 'lavang' in Hindi, is derived from the flower buds of evergreen trees that are native to tropical climates. Morphologically, clove trees have broad leaves, a typical pyramidal shape, and when fully grown rises up to a height of around thirty five to forty feet bearing tiny yellow flowers. Blooming in loose clusters at the tips of its branches, these flowers emanate a characteristic aromatic fragrance. These floral buds of the clove tree are plucked and sun dried for creating the delicious smelling spice.
